February Weather Almanac
February maximum temperatures on the Maryland portion of Chesapeake Bay range from the low 40s during the beginning of the month to the upper 40s later in the month. Colder days remain in the 30s with an occasional day or two below freezing. Occasional milder days may reach the 50s or low 60s. Lows are mainly in the 20s with some 10s. The wide swing in temperatures is due to the waning season of winter and the encroachment of warmer air to the south. However, February is historically the snowiest month on the Chesapeake. Some of our greatest snowstorms have occurred in February. The snowiest February on record was 50” in 2010, the winter of three blizzards. The coldest February temperature was -7 degrees (1899,1934) and the warmest was 83 degrees (1930). Source: National Weather Service.
